Nothing’s phones run the Android-based Nothing OS, and the tech company has begun development on the third edition of Nothing OS. I am referring to Nothing OS 3.0, which will be based on Android 15.
If you own a Nothing phone, you may be wondering when Android 15 and Nothing OS 3 will be available for your device. I will discuss the release date, supported devices, and features of Nothing OS 3.
Nothing OS 3.0 Release Date
The new smartphone company has already launched the first open beta of Nothing OS 3 and plans to release the second open beta in November. Last year, Nothing published the stable build two months after launching the beta program. Based on this information, we can assume that the stable Android 15-based Nothing OS 3.0 will be published in December. The release date is likewise expected to be in the second half of November.
The release date of Nothing OS 3 has been revealed, as has the Open Beta program. These are the official open beta schedules.
- Phone (2a): Available now
- Phone (2): November 2024
- Phone (1): December 2024
- Phone (2a) Plus: December 2024
- CMF Phone 1: December 2024
Nothing OS 3.0 Supported Devices
If you have a Nothing phone, you might be curious if it will receive the next Android 15 upgrade. This is where you will discover your solution.
Nothing offers a three-OS update policy on its smartphones. This makes all Nothing devices eligible for the Android 15 update. Yes, the Nothing Phone (1) is eligible for Android 15, but this will be the final update for the Nothing Phone 1.
Here is the list of Nothing OS 3 eligible Nothing phones.
- Nothing Phone (1)
- Nothing Phone (2)
- Nothing Phone (2a)
- Nothing Phone (2a) Plus
- CMF Phone 1
Nothing OS 3.0 Features
If you are a tech enthusiast, you would know that Carl Pei is the man behind the Nothing brand. In one of his tweets, he himself leaked a couple of Nothing OS 3.0 features, giving us the first official look at Nothing OS 3 in Summer. And now with the Nothing OS 3 beta release for Nothing Phone 2a, we know a lot about the upcoming update.
Text/Font style change
As per the early reviews of the closed beta, Nothing OS 3 has switched the dot matrix font to a different font style. The dot matrix is not completely gone, it is still present but only in some places. Nothing likely made this change to make fonts more readable for everyone.
More options for Lock Screen Customization
The lock screen will have new clock designs that you can use for a better lock screen look. Users can enter the customization page by long-tapping the lock screen.
Redesigned Control Center
Nothing is also joining brands that have majorly redesigned their control centers. In the newly redesigned control center, you will get big toggles in the first swipe, whereas the second swipe will reveal additional toggles in a circular design that you can resize.
The toggles are resizable using the small resize icon that appears in the edit mode. The control center background now changes based on the dark/light theme.
In the control center, the brightness bar is now bigger, which is easy to slide and hosts a shortcut for the auto brightness option.
Archive an App
Similar to iOS’s offload, Archive lets you remove the app without deleting its data. When you reinstall the app, its data will be reinstated. You can access the archive option in the App info settings.
Reorganized Settings
The settings app also has a redesign. Related settings are grouped together which make users easily find related settings and options.
Battery Health and Cycle Count
In the Nothing OS 3, users can check their phone’s battery health as well as battery cycle count. It can be found in the new settings named Device Diagnostics.
